Day 1: Bleeding Blue

Theme: Water ~ Form: Haiku ~ Device: Simile

Bleeding Blue

Gallops true and strong

In spidery rivulets

with streams long

and thin veins across

In swift infinite circles

Cutting quite a loss

Spilling at the bruise

Thick as life and easy spent

An ocean to ooze

Taken for granted

Shall never change no matter

A heart transplanted

Swim, plunge, dip into

Spirit never condensates

We’ll always bleed blue

I wrote out a sequence of haikus, with an alternating rhyme scheme, drawing a comparison between the water cycle and the circulation of blood in our bodies. Also, considering that the ICC Cricket World Cup is going on now, I wanted to convey how deep cricket runs in the veins of Indians by using our motto ‘Bleed blue’.

Day 2: A Love Haiku

Prompt: Write a haiku. They’re often about nature, but yours can be about anything.

A Love Haiku

Love, ever the storm

Raging in my heart till I

Shiver in your warmth

I’ve written my haiku about a darker shade of love: destructive love. I chose this form because in my opinion, love is not quite so happy and perfect as it is made out to be. Sometimes it is harmful to us. Loving someone can flood you with the most intense feelings possible but in the process it can also give life to hidden insecurities and damage the way you feel about yourself.

Love hides behind a facade of simplicity and simplicity in itself is the greatest deception of all. Human beings have a notion that love is a shield against the world, that it can mend their broken hearts and stitch the wounds of misfortune but it is not so. Sometimes it is pain wrapped in a pretty little package begging to be felt. Sometimes we love something or someone and it is beyond our control but slowly as this love grows stronger, the more corroded we become inside. It is a love that strangles you, yet you cannot breathe any better by loosening its noose around your neck.

So all in all, love is not a happily ever after. It can be quite the controversy. The simplest way to put it is that it can be a drug that we become addicted to even though it hurts us in the long term.  I think if you want to fall in love, you ought to be prepared to take the rough with the smooth.
