Ottawa’s always a lovely sight on July 1st, I remember heading downtown for the festivities and smatterings of red and white everywhere I looked. My family would spend all day there till the night draws in and we’d head over to watch the fireworks on Parliament Hill. Though I’m not living in Ottawa at the moment, I still feel just as proud and happy about what today represents. So I’m there in spirit!
For those who don’t know what Canada Day is or why it is celebrated, this is the gist of it. This day marks the union of three British North American colonies (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the Province of Canada)into a federation of four provinces (the Province of Canada being divided, in the process, into Ontario and Quebec) on July 1, 1867.
